Samorost 3 Trailer
Story
Samorost 3 is an exploration adventure and puzzle game from the award-winning creators of Machinarium and Botanicula. It is Amanita Design’s most ambitious experience to date and a loose continuation of the hit indie games Samorost and Samorost 2.
Samorost 3 follows a curious space gnome who uses the powers of a magic flute to travel across the cosmos in search of its mysterious origins. Visit nine unique and alien worlds teeming with colorful challenges, creatures and surprises to discover, brought to life with beautiful artwork, sound and music.
Graphics
The graphics in Samorost 3 are something rarely seen in this genre of game. The level of detail, thought and imagination put into each scene is breathtaking. I enjoy the stark contrast between certain elements as well. For example the protagonist is very simple and pales in comparison to other characters that you meet along the way in terms of finite details.
2D games are interesting in that you must layer foregrounds, backgrounds, characters and scenary to create a 3D effect. Samorost 3 does this exceptionally well and really makes it feel like you are looking in on gnomes life as he ventures through his journey.
The visual aspects of this game are hard to fathom and yet each new planet makes me stop and say wow.. just wow.
Gameplay
Samorost 3 is a point-to-click based game where all game interaction is using your mouse. There is very little in the way of hints and some of the puzzles can be extremely difficult if you have never played any of the Samorost series games before.
The protagonist uses the acquired horn to amplify sounds around him, many which contain melodies that can be replayed using the same instrument. This allows gnome to speak with spirits, who act out hints, puzzle solutions, and story elements. Occasionally, other characters in Samorost 3 will communicate via this method as well.
Sounds / Music
The sounds and music in Samorost 3 are an absolute treat. While the characters don’t much more than grunt when speaking, other creatures sing beautiful melodic tunes. The background score is subtle and peaceful, at times becoming more upbeat. It was strangely peaceful and relaxing listening to the tunes of Samorost 3 while advancing through the game.
Time To Learn
As this is a point-to-click game the time to learn is very short. With that being said the difficulty of the puzzles experienced can range from super simple to absolutely mind boggling. I think a lot of this lies in whether you have played any other games in the Samorost series. For me this was my first taste and it was challenging at times to resolve the puzzles when there is very little visual clues.
Would I recommend?
I would absolutely recommend this game to all that enjoy a good puzzle adventure. The Music and accompanying sounds are absolutely gorgeous and the graphics have a level of detail not often shown in games of this genre. I thoroughly enjoyed my play through and have added Amanita Design to my list of publishers I follow. I cannot wait to see what they think up next!
